When you are planning to decorate your home, there are factors at play that determine how you decorate. These include aesthetic taste, budget, and functionality. Interior design conventions were introduced long ago, and nowadays, people have accepted them. However, just like any kind of art and fashion, interior design is always evolving and changing. Like many other professions involving art and style, the interior design industry is awash with stereotypes, misconceptions, and myths. Many people don’t seem to understand what an interior designer does or what the design process entails. To help you steer clear of misconceptions, Modern Property Design has debunked some of the most widely believed myths about interior design.

Myth 1: You pay them to do things you could do yourself
This is not true. There has been so much mystery around the business, and it does not have a good reputation for being transparent. That said, it’s true that many people are gifted with a good eye for color and form, and they can design their living space without anybody’s help. However, even if you’re one of them, there are a lot of valuable proponents which a designer can give. Designers attend markets and visit showrooms that the average client does not have access to. They often have access and knowledge linked to a plethora of professional help in case they get stuck with ideas. They know specifically where to shop online and locally to get the best deals and value for their customers.

Myth 2: Designers will get rid of all of your belongings
Just because a designer has unlimited access to your home doesn’t mean that they’re going to misuse your trust. Many designers will be challenged to mix your old belongings with their new additions. If you have a good relationship with your designer, they will undoubtedly consult you when it comes to throwing stuff away. Designers are very skilled in communication. They have to be. They have been trained to respect your opinion even when it doesn’t coincide with their own preferences. Designers will NOT throw all of your stuff away, try to believe in what they’re doing, and integrate your own ideas with theirs.

Myth 3: I won’t have enough money for the design plan(s)
There are so many ways to design from up close and afar that are doable today. The most important thing to get through with your designer is your budget. If this issue is aired out initially and there is open communication, then a design plan can be made. Designers build conceptualized plans aimed at accomplishing your goals without surpassing your financial restrictions. They want you to know how much things will cost and also that you have options.

In case they suggest something more expensive than what you can afford, you can always explain to them that you want something more basic in a particular price range. This will not upset them. Designers like knowing what your price point is. More importantly, design plans are not permanent, and you can change almost everything along the way, even before you’ve reached the final destination.
